This position is in the Diabetes Epidemiology and Clinical Research Section (DECRS), of the Phoenix Epidemiology and Clinical Research Branch (PECRB), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH). As a member of the Research/Health care term, serves as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) performing research studies and providing health care services for research subjects, both adults and children.

Duties

Performs comprehensive health evaluations and procedures in volunteer subjects of all ages. Provides primary clinical contact for participants in clinical trials or treatment studies. Works with those in charge of research clinic as an integral part of the management team. Implements regularly scheduled quality assurance review (chart audits, peer review, etc.) and revises standards to correct system deficiencies as a result of these reviews. Serves as a consultant and provides technical assistance to other health care providers and staff. Develops and conducts formal education (in services) for other clinic staff (e.g., technicians, medical clerks, etc.). Participates in interpreting, analyzing, and reporting (through professional meetings, local community meetings, and publications) research results.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610-13 position you must have: Education Requirement: A. Have a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND B. Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). AND Licensure Requirement: C. Have a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Additional Requirements: In addition, in order to qualify for the Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610-13 position you must have: At least 1 year of Nurse Practitioner experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Perform comprehensive physical assessments and patient history to determine need for medical attention and testing; Coordinate care for both adult and children patients with a focus on underserved populations; Review and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing; Research trends in patient care to develop and report new approaches and methods related to patient care and research; and Develop briefings and presentations to other medical professionals and employees.
