About the Position: This position is located with the Patient Administration Records/Outpatient Department at Army Medical Center Womack, Fort Liberty, NC. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Provide education, technical guidance and training on coding and documentation issues for coders, physicians, and other health care professionals. Participate in professional development activities, to include scheduling coding certification training and testing assisting and preparing coders. Present written reports/results from audits and propose a correction plan to MRA and hospital Leadership for action. Plan, organize, direct and evaluate all coding activities. Prepares curriculum and development for all new coders and coding coaches. Develop performance plans, evaluate work performance of subordinates, and provide recommended ratings of record. Serve as Supervisory Medical Records Administration Specialist in the Medical Records Administration Branch overseeing the medical coding function.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility may be required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Position may be designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Coding medical diagnoses and procedures; (2) Maintaining medical records for compliance with policies and procedures; (3) Advising medical staff/personnel on proper documentation or coding procedures and practices; and (4) Performing quality control procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Medical Records Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
