You will serve as a Police Sergeant (shift supervisor) at the GG-10 grade level primarily responsible for performing law enforcement operational duties and exercising full supervisory responsibilities during an assigned shift in one of the police units within the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), N7 Security and Law Enforcement Department.

Duties

You will supervise any of the three normally scheduled shifts or special shifts as dictated by mission requirements. You will determine resource requirements (e.g. manpower, budget, equipment) for the shift based on operational needs and sets work schedules to ensure personnel are present, in proper uniform and ready for duty. You will prepare performance objectives/evaluations, identify training needs and provide recommendations for promotions, reassignments and recognition awards. You will conduct and/or review criminal and security investigations, providing law enforcement expertise to crimes against persons or property. You will assess activities and behavior of individuals; identifies, reports, and responds to potential threatening situations and violations of law and security procedures. You will participate in developing organizational regulations, manuals, policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to law enforcement and security/requirements. You will provide guidance to officers on the implementation of new or revised laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). Failure to do so may result in the withdrawal of an offer or removal. Indicate the level and date of your clearance in your resume.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the DCIPS (excepted service) which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • All Defense Intelligence positions under the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) are in the excepted service by specific statute, 10 U.S.C. 1601. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.
  • This position may be subject to a Polygraph Examination.
  • This position may require a 2-year DCIPS Trial Period.
  • Incumbent must pass all annual sustainment and use of force training.
  • Incumbent must be physically able and skilled in handling of small arms to qualify with pistol, shotgun, and rifle annually.
  • Incumbent must pass pre-hire, initial, and annual medical, physical, and agility testing and requirements as directed by the command.
  • Incumbent must pass annual CPR and first aid certification course.
  • Incumbent must be mentally stable, have color vision and be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Duties include prolonged standing, walking, and light lifting. Shift work required.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Upon appointment or within permitted scheduling, incumbent must graduate from a Federal law enforcement training center or from a Navy-accepted law enforcement Police Academy.
  • This position is covered under the Lautenberg Amendment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS/GG-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties such as: Participating in the planning, scheduling, and oversight of assigned shift uniformed police officers (military or civilian). Maintaining law and order within a federal jurisdiction to protect agency facilities. Assigning and ensuring work assignments are carried out in compliance with organization standard operating procedures, policies, current law enforcement techniques and skills. Performing police operational duties assuring compliance with federal, state, local, municipal laws and ordinances and agency rules, policies, and regulations to maintain law and order. Preparing reports of shift activities and other law enforcement related reports, forms, and correspondence as necessary.
