This position is located at the Army Community Recreation Division at Victor Constant Ski Area. This position is Flexible with no guarantee of hours. Hours per week vary depending on business needs. There is potential to work up to 40hrs/week, but no guarantee. This position is not eligible for benefits or leave. Duties

Repairs and inspects ski and snow equipment (i.e. ski edges; binding tow and heel latches; boots and poles; cross country skis: binding and poles; and snowboards). Receives and issues equipment and supplies, maintains proper temporary hand receipts, and when required, processes statements of charges for damaged or lost parts and equipment. Maintains machines, tools, bench stock and authorized repair parts in a clean and orderly manner, turning in all unserviceable and excess equipment, tools and supplies for disposal. Follows procedures outlined in binding technical manuals; adjusts and recommends correct length and type of skis for customers and assists customers with boot and pole fitting. Assists with maintenance, inspections, servicing and/or attending of ski lifts as needed. Assists ski patrol in emergency lift evacuation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Must be available to work varying and/or rotating shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • A Medical Examination is required as physical effort includes frequent standing, stooping and bending in awkward positions, lifting or carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • The dual compensation guidelines DO NOT apply to this position. All federal government employees, whether regular full-time or regular part-time, are eligible to apply for this position.

Qualifications

Must have work experience that furnishes the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position as listed below. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: 1. Work experience in inspecting, maintaining and repairing ski and snow equipment (i.e. ski edges and bases; binding toe and heel latches; boots and poles; cross country skies, binding and poles; and snow boards). 2. Ability to maintain appropriate manual and electrical tools and equipment used for the maintenance and repair of ski and snow equipment. (Some examples of the equipment used sharpen, wax, bind and grind skis and other equipment). 3. Knowledge of how to use basic mathematics to estimate/order materials, conduct measurements, and make adjustments. 4. Ability to read, understand and apply instruction and other materials related to this line of work. 5. Ability to distinguish or determine proper dimensions and/or type of equipment needed to insure proper fit. 6. Knowledge of the proper methods of accurately completing documentation, forms, taking inventory, maintaining hand receipts, etc. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies: knowledge, skills, abilities, additional screening criteria and other characteristics as listed above. The work experience that furnishes these competencies MUST be reflected on your resume to be considered eligible for this position. HIGHLY PREFERRED are applicants who possess the minimum qualifications above AND: 1. Are willing and able to become a certified Ski Technician within one (1) month of being appointed. Applicants meeting the Highly Preferred criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official. All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection.
