You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist in the Mission Support Division of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY CONUS.

Duties

You will conduct formal inspections of NRL facilities to identify and evaluate workplace hazards, and make recommendations for their abatement. You will follow up on deficiencies and track corrective actions to completion. You will conduct substantial field work involving walking, standing, bending, etc. as well as work using a desktop workstation. You will identify and administer training needs at NRL from inspection data and from requirements in directives from higher authority. You will update current NRL programs as needed.

Requirements

  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NO-02 (GS-05/10) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: (1) assisting in the formal inspection of laboratory facilities to identify and evaluate workplace hazards; (2) identifying and assisting in the development of training on safety and occupational health standards; (3) applying and analyzing safety and occupational health policies and regulations; and (4) assisting in the evaluation of high safety risk areas within the workplace. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or completion of three full years of graduate level education leading to such a degree or LL.M with major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, engineering, and industrial psychology;

OR

A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
