This position is located in the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joint Force Development Directorate (J-7), Joint Education and Doctrine (JED), Joint Deployment Training Center (JDTC), Fort Eustis, VA. This position serves as the Global Command and Control System-Joint (GCCS-J) Common Operational Picture (COP) and Integrated Imagery and Intelligence (I3) Instructor.

Duties

As a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR at the GS-1712-12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Plans, coordinates, designs, and validates major components of COP and I3 training instructional design to the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), services, joint/service exercises, DoD Agencies, and Professional Military Education institutions. Providing instructor services for JDTC GCCS-J courses of instruction which include COP-Basic, COP-Advanced, COP Integrated Imagery and Intelligence (I3), and Situational Awareness Executive Presentation. Providing subject matter expertise (SME) to support the development and updating of all associated curriculum. Providing SME to evaluate, review, and validate effectiveness of test/measurement devices. Participating in Command and Control and COP community working groups and councils.

  • Employees are expected to have a current or be able to obtain a government passport and receive Force Protection training should overseas travel to meet with requesting commands be required.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform travel from 15-20 nights per quarter or longer, if necessary, CONUS and OCONUS. Incumbent must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft, vessels, and/or vehicles.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Providing subject matter expert instruction to evaluate, review, and validate effectiveness of test/measurement devices, Performing extensive fact-finding, development and interpretation of source material; Validating training instruction, curriculum, and resourcing for assigned courses; Completing pre and post class administrative tasks; Developing effective instructional materials which include order of presentation, level of interaction, feedback, and remediation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1712 series. Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. *NOTE: Failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position. OR Experience: Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
