Job opening: Maintenance Worker

Salary: $26 - 31 per hour

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB & MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Employees work a 4 day-10-hour work week, Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sierra Army Depot is located in the rural northeast California town of Herlong, California. Childcare facilities are available.

Duties

Install, repair, and maintain Sectional steel, metal sliding, fast-acting, and garage style roll-up doors. Perform preventative maintenance on roll-up doors throughout the depot. Construct, alter and repair buildings and structures such as framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim. Maintain, repair or construct surfaces from concrete, block, stone and other related materials. Paint interior and exterior of buildings, park equipment and facilities. Use electric or oxyacetylene welding equipment to join metal parts by standard welding specifications and operations. Lubricate and adjust chains, torsion bars, and limit switches.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent may be required to obtain training certifications as offered and participate in stated situations as part of Sierra's Emergency Response Team.
  • Valid State Issued Driver's License.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision: Ability to perform common Maintenance Worker tasks (1) completing basic carpentry and masonry repairs; (2) Assisting with the installation, repair and/or maintenance of garage style roll up doors; (3) Painting interior and exterior of buildings, park equipment and facilities; (4) Locating broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment by visual check or simple tests. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolds, and on platforms in cramped and hard to reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels and climbs, end works in awkward, tiring and uncomfortable positions. Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, frequently lifting, moving, and carrying items up to 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo, handling heavy equipment, parts, tools and materials, and pushing wheelbarrows. Considerable arm movement in welding, carpentry, and masonry work, etc. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, exposed to all weather conditions. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, and noisy conditions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors. Area is frequently inadequately heated and cooled. Subject to possible injury from vehicular accidents, loading and unloading cargo, or from hand end power tools used. Subject to cuts, bruises, insect bites and stings, scrapes, burns, infections, end broken bones. Subject to strains and injuries from lifting.
