About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Surgery, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Perform a wide range of complex occupational therapy duties. Provide evaluation and therapeutic interventions for a full range of patients during ongoing treatment. Determine patient's current functional level. Supervise and collaborate with the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA). Develop complex treatment plans and programs for a full range of patients, including active duty military personnel. Educate patients and families on the injury and/or disease process and its effects on function and recovery. Create protocols and standing operating procedures (SOPs) for Occupational Therapy programs. Serve on planning teams centered around individual care plans for patients. Communicate with healthcare teams, military chain of command, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and other community agencies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Occupational Therapist: Degree: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included an occupational therapy curriculum approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. Certification: Applicants must have passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0631 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Implementing occupational therapy treatment plans; 2) Reviewing medical histories to evaluate patients; and 3) Educating staff, patients, and families, 4) Specialized hand therapy experience. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
