About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Duties

Utilize computer generated recipe worksheets to assemble ingredients for a variety of cooked and uncooked foods. Process vegetables or fruits by cutting, scraping, chopping, dicing, and peeling. Set up salad bar in dining room, and replenish salad items during meal service for patrons. Set up and replenish condiments, silverware, trays, glassware, plates, disposable plates and cups in servery area. Label and store food items to preserve unused food and ingredients. Sanitize by washing pots, pans, dishes, trays, and utensils.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 60 pounds is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform the common duties of a Food Service Worker, which includes washing dishes, pots, and pans, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment and dining area. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Work is performed on hard surfaces and in areas that require employee to stand, stoop, and bend. Frequently is required to lift or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds, e.g., when moving trays of completed salads and/or moving pans of macaroni/potatoes. Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly in uncomfortable, warm and noisy kitchen, and sometimes in dining area. The work involves continuous walking and standing on concrete floors. The incumbent is exposed to minor cuts, bruises, burns and scalds.
