About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation.

Duties

You will exercise supervisory responsibility for control over the work operations involving Cooks and Food Service Workers. You will assign work and provide technical direction. You will plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, tools, and supplies. You will adhere to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans. You will recommend changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences, and make minor deviations in procedures or redirect resources to overcome problems such as equipment failures, lack of needed supplies, or unplanned absences. You will inspect completed work for quality and/or work order requirements. You will ensure safety and housekeeping practices are observed.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and periodic Physical Examinations.
  • This position requires work shift schedules that include early mornings, late nights, week-ends, and holidays.
  • This is a weather essential position, and the incumbent must report to work and/or remain in the position in bad weather, natural disasters, or other crisis.
  • This position has a requirement to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance, and lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • This position requires wear of safety gear/personal protective equipment.
  • This position requires wear of a uniform.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year supervisory probationary period unless the appointee has previously met this requirement.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold temperatures, must stand on tile floor, subject to burns, cuts and other injuries from hand tools or power equipment. Required to work at any Cadet Mess facility including off post camps. The employee is required to wear protective shoes, appropriate hearing protection, and gloves or other safety and food handling items required by food handling guides.
