This position is located within the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Program (NUDP).

Duties

Independently design, organize, and conduct original research experiments. Develop new methods, techniques and procedures. Determine time and resources required to perform the experiments and establish plans and schedules. Analyze results of experiments to determine whether data generated is accurate and valid. Identify unusual or unexpected results and their probable causes and recommend rerunning experiments or modifying conditions as necessary.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Geneticist, GS-0440 position, you must have a bachelor's degree in genetics or one of the basic biological sciences that include at least 9 semester hours in genetics; or a graduate degree in a curriculum or pattern of training that placed major emphasis on genetics. In addition, in order to qualify for a Geneticist at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: managing, designing, planning and implementing experiments in genetics; developing new research methods; evaluating progress of genetics experiments; analyzing research data for publication in scientific journals.
