Qualifications

In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Pathways Internship Program, Pathways Interns qualify for an initial appointment based on their educational achievements and/or experience as described below: To qualify for the GS-04 level, you need to have two full years of post-high school education - OR at least one year of general experience - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. To qualify for the GS-05 level, you need to have a four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree - OR at least three years of full-time general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 level, that demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; plan and organize work; and communicate effectively orally and in writing - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
