This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Position will be filled as a Term appointment not to exceed 2 years. This position may be extended up to eight years, and may be converted to a permanent appointment without further competition.

Duties

Perform technical inspections on a vast array of wheeled equipment to include tactical and non-tactical vehicles and general purpose equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions on a vast array of wheeled equipment to include tactical and non-tactical vehicles and general purpose equipment. Prepare repair estimates. Perform classification inspections of equipment and applies the applicable condition code to the end item. Read and interpret schematics. Operate test equipment associated with the repair and troubleshooting of wheeled vehicles. Participate in process improvement events. Perform service and repair of a vast array of wheeled equipment to include tactical and non-tactical vehicles and general purpose equipment along with their associated major components, i.e. engines, transmissions, gear boxes, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Position will require occasional evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours to include mandatory overtime, as mission dictates.
  • Incumbent will be required to travel up to 20% of time.
  • Pre-employment and annual physicals are required.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Inspect. Perform common Automotive Equipment Repair Inspector duties such as: 1) conducting inspections of completed repairs to tactical and non-tactical wheeled and general purpose automotive equipment; 2) operating hand, power and special tools common to vehicle repair; and 3) performing maintenance, repair and overhaul work assignments on major components and assemblies, such as engines, transmissions and/or differentials of various types of vehicles. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Physical Effort: Required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Inspection of equipment is often conducted while the vehicle is overhead. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 70 pounds. Occasionally must lift and carry heavier items with assistance or mechanical devices. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside, usually inside where it is drafty and noisy, and fumes from vehicles are present. Must stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Vehicle fluids, such as battery acid and hydraulic fluids, may cause burns or irritate the skin. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns and strains. May be required to work in awkward positions and cramped quarters for short periods of time. Possibility of injuries from falls while climbing onto and off equipment. Required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection, safety glasses and gloves.
