Duties

This job opportunity is located in the Printing Section or Finishing Section, Document Services Branch, National Processing Center (NPC), Jeffersonville, IN. This position serves as a supervisor of a unit and is responsible for planning and directing the workload assigned to the unit. In addition, the position provides recommendations concerning maintenance and safety of equipment and facilities to Branch management. This position is not included in the bargaining unit. The individual selected for this position will: Supervise mail processing and peripheral equipment operators who operate high speed printing equipment. Plan and schedule ongoing production-oriented work on a daily basis. Direct, review and coordinate the work of the unit which involves operation of complex peripheral equipment, printing of census/survey materials which meet sponsor and USPS requirements for mailings; collect production and scheduling information which is vital to the process of procuring additional equipment. Set and adjust priorities; prepare schedules for completion of work. Improve work methods and procedures used to produce work products. Tour of Duty: Hours will be 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. Alternate Work Schedule is available. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off. Positions may include evening or weekend work, hours will vary.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify at the Grade 07 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the Grade 06 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that demonstrates knowledge of and skill in the operation of various peripheral devices; making corrective adjustments; and leading or training others in support of a large-scale mail processing and material assembly environment. You qualify at the Grade 08 level if you meet the basic requirements and possess one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the Grade 07 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that demonstrates the knowledge of and skill in planning and directing work regarding mail processing and peripheral equipment operation including monitoring/adjusting various peripheral devices and systems in support of a large-scale mail processing operation. Education cannot be substituted for experience at these grade levels. Note to current NPC employees: If you are a current NPC employee and are selected from this announcement, this selection will change your type of appointment to a Term Appointment. At the end of this Term Appointment, your employment with NPC will end. You will be required to re-compete for any permanent positions. In some cases, you may be eligible for reinstatement.
