This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Duties

Apprehend and detain violators. Detect and apprehend wanted persons accused of crimes in other jurisdictions. Stop, question and detain persons of interest and notify appropriate law enforcement agencies. Write clear, concise accident reports to document information received from all parties involved. Conduct preliminary investigations pertaining to felonies, misdemeanors, and other criminal acts. Instructs training in various law enforcement functions to include, but not limited to basic and refresher courses, use of force, weapons qualifications. Instructs a department approved Officer Field Training Program. Prepares lesson plans, obtains training aids, critiques instruction and instructional materials. Instructs training on federal, state and local statutes, the U.S. Code, Uniformed Code of Military Justice, Department of the Army and local regulations, directives, orders, procedures, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must meet the conditions of employment identified in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56; "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program,". Prior to appointment you must agree in writing to adhere to these conditions of employment.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm, qualify with their assigned weapon and remain proficient in the use of their assigned weapon and police related equipment which may include chemical aerosol irritants and LESD.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercise of arrest authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This position requires the selectee to qualify annually for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) as explained in IAW 190-56, Chapter 3.
  • This position requires you to pass the record Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • Incumbent must be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, and automated police information retrieval systems.
  • The position requires the selectee possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires an initial and periodic medical examination to assess your ability to take the Physical Ability Test and to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Applicants must successfully graduate from the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy within 12 months of hire date; unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • This position requires certification in cardio pulmonary resuscitation and first aid.
  • Must successfully complete and stay certified in the use of Less Lethal systems, to include, but not limited to: TASER, OC Spray, Weapons, and Expandable Baton.
  • Incumbent is required to wear prescribed uniform.
  • May be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work utilizing knowledge of a body of laws and regulations to maintain order and protect life and property; arresting and mirandizing suspects; preserving evidence; conducting investigations; writing reports; conducting vehicle and foot patrols; independently responding to calls for police assistance and emergency help; traffic control or enforcement; conducting personal or vehicle searches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
