Duties

The incumbent must possess and apply a high level of technical competence for a full range of firefighting/fire prevention practices and techniques Conducts and trains fire department personnel in hazardous materials and WMD IAW OSHA requirements Information obtained is used to develop the most current, technically accurate course possible. Plans and organizes training in conjunction with the post disaster control plan, chemical accident and incident response and assistance plan and radiological accident/incident control plan.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
  • This position requires an uncommon tour of duty: 60 hours work per week (120 hours per pay period) which includes at least one 24 hour shift and may include working nights, weekends, and holidays. I am willing to work an uncommon tour of duty.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime. This position performs, as required, mutual aid support to local fire departments.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires successful completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
  • This position requires the incumbent to conform to the requirements set-forth in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1500, Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • This position requires participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Firefighter I and II, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Technician, Driver Operator - Pumper, Driver Operator - Aerial certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State or National Registry EMT Certification Card indicating a future expiration You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: AccountabilityOral CommunicationTeaching OthersWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
