About the Position: This position serves as a security assistant with U. S. Army Installation Management Command Directorate of Emergency Services at Fort Walker (formerly Fort A.P. Hill) in Caroline County, VA. Fort Walker falls under the Richmond, VA salary scale.

Duties

Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s). Screens all employees, visitors, consultants, and contractor personnel daily. Controls, prepares, and issues identification badges, cards, and passes that allow access of civilian, military, contractor personnel, and visitors on to the installation. Maintains a variety of files, access control registers, databases, and installation access denial/approval packets, and records to provide control of sensitive information. Loads, unloads, adjusts, and operates simple cameras under controlled conditions to take identification photographs. Provides office automation support to the Security Office by providing word-processing, database management, email, and related functions in support of the staff.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The position requires rotating shifts including coverage on weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • This position requires state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal.
  • Clerical duties require the services of a fully qualified typist to provide office automation support services to the staff. Must be able to type 40 WPM with only 3 errors in a five-minute sample.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing documentation for validity and compliance; providing guidance and information on security regulations and procedures; and operating office equipment such as a desktop computer and camera. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. This position has a Selective Placement Factor requiring a typing proficiency of 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
