Duties

Technically leads and manages the Indian Affairs (IA) Fire Safety Program to ensure an efficient and uniform level of protection throughout the IAs' jurisdiction. Develops IA-wide technical and programmatic guidelines and methodologies to implement fire safety programs and activities. Conducts technical reviews of fire protection system and life safety system shop design documents for compliance with IA adopted codes and mandated standards. Conducts final inspections of fire protection system and life safety system for compliance with IA adopted codes and mandated standards. Initiates and oversees the IA's Fire Safety training programs Initiates mutual aid agreements, mutual agreement of understanding, and other fire protection contracts with tribes and surrounding municipalities and county fire departments.

  • The full performance level of this position is a GS 12.
  • TELEWORK: Indian Affairs has determined that the duties of the position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards ) Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0000/fire-protection-and-prevention-series-0081 MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS: GS -12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience performing tasks such as providing oversight and management of fire safety program, recommending corrective actions to determine compliance with requirements and other regulatory compliance, conducting technical review of fire protection systems and life safety systems shop design documents, conducting final inspections of fire protection systems and life safety systems, and initiating and oversight of fire prevention training programs. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
