About the Position: Augusta has a moderate year-round climate and is located a few hours from Atlanta, Savannah, GA and Columbia, Charleston, SC. Ft Gordon's location offers close proximity to metropolitan areas and is an easy drive to Atlanta, Savannah, the beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. This is a TERM appointment Not to Exceed 13 months.

Duties

Qualify carriers for storage of DoD sponsored personal property shipments through inspections. Identify deficiencies in packing methods and requirements to determine extent and severity of any potential problem area. Check for evidence that packing is correct on material being delivered. Manage pertinent documentation and forms in order to support actions and inspection's results. Identify deficiencies in shipments and packaging for corrective action.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Government vehicle operation certificate, within 30 days of employment.

This position may be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Temporary Reassignment and may be extended for current Department of Army employees. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) identifying deficiencies in packing methods and requirements to determine the severity of any potential problem areas; 2) performing safety inspections in order to qualify carriers for agency sponsored personal property shipments; and 3) advising on entitlements or procedures such as the type and quantity of personal property that can be moved, storage entitlements, mover's liabilities, or the paperwork necessary to document moves. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as any major field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: AdaptabilityConscientiousnessReasoning (Clerical/Technical)Writing Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
