You will serve as a SECURITY SPECIALIST in the PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, SPECIAL PROGRAMS BRANCH of HQ US MARINE CORPS.

Duties

You will apply the requirements for classifying, marking, redacting, handling, transporting, and safeguarding protected information and/or classified information. You will support activities that protect against espionage, other intelligence activities, sabotage, or assassinations conducted for or on behalf of foreign powers, organizations or persons, or terrorist activities. You will apply knowledge of policies, procedures, and requirements established under appropriate authorities to protect information that, if subjected to unauthorized disclosure could reasonably be expected to cause damage to national security. You will conduct assessments on threats and vulnerabilities, determine the level of risk, and develop and recommend appropriate mitigation countermeasures in operational and non-operational situations. You will conduct assessments in a counterintelligence context to protect against espionage, other intelligence activities, and sabotage conducted for or on behalf of foreign powers, organizations or persons, or international terrorist activities. You will plan, analyze, develop, penetration testing, access control, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information security systems, programs, policies, procedures, and tools. You will interpret and implement new directions for the organization and subordinate regions to ensure compliance to national and agency policies and programs.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Incumbent must hold a Top Secret security clearance based on satisfactory completion of a current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) which has been adjudicated and determined to meet the required personnel security standards.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
  • You will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement and when required must submit to and pass a polygraph examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: analyzing, investigating and resolving a variety of primarily conventional security problems, issues, and conditions in the administration or the organizations security program.
