About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation.

Duties

Maintain overall responsibility for the repair, inspection, maintenance, issue/turn-in, accountability, storage and physical security of the small arms for the Logistics Readiness Center. Utilize Department of the Army technical field manuals to inspect, disassemble, repair and/or replace parts for all assigned weapons. Make authorized modifications of small arms and replace obsolete parts. Perform repair maintenance on all standard military weapons such as rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers, pistols and other weapons such as mortars and missiles. Conduct inventory of parts, accessories, all small arms, and small arms repairs in accordance with prescribed load list.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug testing screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment). This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination and annual physical examinations thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties. Assistance is provided when lifting at or above 50 pounds.

Occasionally lifts crates of ammunition and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds when physically loading boxes from trucks into loading areas. Assistance is provided when lifting at or above 50 pounds. Uses loading aids such as hand trucks, dollies, etc. Work requires frequent walking, bending and long periods of standing. Working Conditions: The work is performed in the two Cadet Armory's which are lighted and ventilated. The degree of heat is controlled for optimum temperature for storage of weapons. Long periods of standing on concrete floors are required. Employee is subject to noise while using various tools and machinery in the repair and maintenance of the small arms. Exposed to grease, oil and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises from tools or sharp edges of metal. May be required at times to work out doors in a field environment and all types of weather. Required to utilize and follow all safety equipment (e.g., goggles, ear plugs) and procedures, regulations, etc.
