This position is in the Office of Air and Radiation (OAR), Office of Radiation and Indoor Air, Radiation Protection Division, Center for Radiological Emergency Management. Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below: To qualify for the GS-15 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-14 level defined as experience evaluating potential health effects resulting from exposure to radioactive materials; and applying radiation protection principles, theories, concepts, methodologies and techniques. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of scientific risk analysis methods and tools; 2) Ability to interpret models for calculating risk from ionizing radiation; 3) Skill in interpreting results from scientific studies on risks of health effects from exposure to radiation; 4) Knowledge of health physics methodologies, practices, and protocols; 5) Skill in oral presentation of scientific information to national and international organizations concerned with radiation science; 6) Ability to provide scientific expertise on radiation protection issues to senior management; 7) Skill in developing written materials to convey information from scientific studies on radiation health effects; 8) Ability to interpret and adapt scientific information to develop new approaches or concepts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus; OR a combination of education and experience which included courses in the fields included in the described course work; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education comparable to the described coursework
