You will serve as a Manager in the Materials & Manufacturing Technology Division of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This ND-5 position is equivalent to GS-14/15

Duties

You will assist the Department Head in directing, planning, and reviewing the work of the Materials and Manufacturing Technology Division. You will serve as Materials and Manufacturing technical consultant and advisor in the areas of research, development, test evaluation, and in-service engineering. You will direct, plan and review the work of the Division. You will establish local guidance, procedures, and processes for business, administrative, and support functions. You will disseminate information, share lessons, develop plans, and advocate on behalf of the Materials and Manufacturing Technology Division. You will mentor personnel within the Materials and Manufacturing Technology Division to accelerate knowledge transfer and professional growth.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 pay band (GS-12/13 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist conducting research and development or test and evaluation of materials and manufacturing technology (e.g. development of alloys, polymers, ceramics, composites). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet at least one of the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
  • Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics; OR
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
