About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Deputy Director Emergency Services in the Directorate of Emergency Services, Fort Jackson SC 29207. ELIGIBLE - ELIGIBLE FOR REGULAR AND RECURRING TELEWORK.

Duties

Serves as Deputy Director of Emergency Services at a medium to large garrison within the Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Responsible for managing the efficient and effective coordination and accomplishment of all aspects of assigned programs including law enforcement, physical security and fire protection/prevention functions. Performs a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement and physical security operations with full authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action. Represents the garrison for law enforcement, physical security and fire protection/prevention matters to the surrounding civilian communities to include the local, county and state police and fire departments; as well as civic interest groups. Coordinates activities with the other garrison directors to ensure the effective and efficient management of law enforcement, physical security, and fire protection/prevention programs and services. Develops performance plans, evaluates work performance and counsels staff as appropriate. Assigns work based on relative priorities, in consideration of difficulty, requirements of assignments and capabilities of employees.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain SECRET Security Clearance.
  • One year Supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% maybe required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) experience planning, formulating and overseeing matters pertaining to fire protection and prevention functions 2) experience guiding the overall planning for response to natural or man-made disasters 3) experience in establishing and/or maintaining a program for an installation or medimum-size or larger organization 4) experience developing and presenting fire protection and prevention plans for approval. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
