Agent Cashiers perform a very critical role within the VA system, and function independently with a broad knowledge base and minimal supervision. Primary duties involve cashier activities composed of the broad areas of collection and disbursement of funds, and proper distribution of salary checks and earnings and leave statements. In this capacity, incumbent is designated as an authorized Agent of the Treasury Department, and is personally held responsible for the Treasury's advance.

Duties

The duties of the Teller include, but are not limited to: Maintaining the cash flow so that adequate cash is on hand at all times to operate the daily cashier functions Planning and reviewing all activities of the Section, taking prompt action as necessary to modify and/or change existing practices with the objective of efficiency in operations and maintenance of work on a current and accurate basis in accordance with all existing laws and regulations Provides training to alternate cashiers Prepare Field Service Receipts for collections using correct reference numbers of patients' accounts and proper accounting information across a matrix of specific funds Utilizes the Payment Entry Options in the VISTA Agent Cashier Menu, whereby the incumbent will appropriately post/apply payments, store payment data, reconcile daily deposits of funds, and accommodate prepayments and refunds Responsible for the funds advanced by the Treasury Disbursing Office to cover payment of vouchers and must either return the funds in full or submit documentary evidence that they were disbursed or otherwise disposed ofin accordance with applicable law and instructions of the GAO, Treasury Department, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Makes cash payments to patients, employees and cash replenishments to Agent Cashier Section and Imprest Fund Cashiers Receives receipts, deposits and accounts for collections received Preventing access of unauthorized individuals to the Agent Cashier Office, and maintaining and practicing appropriate security measures Implements new/revised operating procedures as required Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM Compressed/Flexible: May be available at a later date Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/18/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: applying accounting procedures and policies; utilizing computerized systems to reconcile funds daily; experience applying VA, Treasury, and Patient Fund regulations as related to Fiscal vouchers, disbursement of funds, authenticating currency and other Agent Cashier operations; communicating with patients and employees, receiving and awarding payments. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communication Technical Competence Cashier Operations Attention to Detail Decision Making Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The physical requirements are of a normal business office environment.
