The primary purpose of this position is to analyze medical record documentation and to consult and collaborate with investigators and clinical care staff of the Clinical Center and other institutes to ensure that the medical record documentation promotes patient safety, supports research, and meets regulatory requirements, Clinical Center policy. RHIA, RHIT, CCS or other health information management credentials are strongly desired.

Duties

Assisting in the development, maintenance, evaluation and adaptation of systems and procedures for the storage, retrieval and utilization of coded diagnostic and procedural data for use by hospital and institute administrative and patient care staff. Analyzing trends in issues related to clinical research documentation to assist in the development of educational programs and materials to ensure medical records are consistently complete, accurate and promote patient safety in a clinical research environment. Analyzing medical record documentation and consulting and collaborating with investigators and clinical care staff of the Clinical Center and other institutes to ensure that the medical record documentation promotes patient safety, supports research, and meets regulatory requirements and Clinical Center policy. Working with the NIH Office of Rare Diseases to ensure rare diseases associated with NIH research protocols are categorized and tracked appropriately for reporting up to the NIH Clinical Center Director's Office with dissemination to the NIH institutes.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

  • Stooping, stretching and carrying light to moderate weight items, such as records, computer tapes, manuals, boxes and books may be required. Flexible, irregular and/or prolonged work schedules may be required and may occur.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-11 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Utilizing information from record analysis process to provide feedback to clinicians and hospital staff regarding medical record documentation practices and identifies opportunities for improvement based on trends noted during documentation analysis; analyzing trends in issues related to clinical research documentation to assist in the development of educational programs and materials to ensure medical records are consistently complete, accurate and promote patient safety in a clinical research environment; conducting queries with medical staff to ensure medical record documentation is consistent and adequate to ensure that the final diagnosis accurately reflects the care and treatment rendered. OR Completion of a Ph.D degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.M degree, if related. OR A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
