About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Supervisory Wildlife Biologist with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

Direct the work of the Conservation/Wildlife Branch as the Installation Fish and Wildlife Manager in accordance with regulatory guidance. Review military training activities, construction projects, and other proposed actions for impacts to installation endangered species, wetlands, and migratory birds to ensure compliance with federal regulations. Articulate information to individuals or groups in a clear and concise manner while taking into account the audience and nature of the information. Convey information in a clear and concise manner using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling to senior leaders within and outside the organization.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid state driver?s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • This position is subject to random drug testing.
  • Subject to call back 24 hours a day 7 days a week, as required.
  • One year Supervisory probationary period may be required
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required up to 5% of the time.

Basic Requirement for Wildlife Biologist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes applying standard practices related to wildlife biology science, and supervisory responsibilities as they relate to wildlife biology; Modify standard practices and present solutions requiring adaptation of precedents; Make significant departures from previous approaches to answer technical questions and assist in specialized projects; Prepare estimates for use in budgeting in order to execute planning towards wildlife biology and assure conformance to principles of wildlife biology standards. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: EcologyManages Human ResourcesPlanning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
