This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Hawaii is a beautiful state, but has a high cost of living. Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.

Duties

You will be responsible for completing installations, modifications, repairs and testing of systems, circuits, equipment and controls. You will be responsible for planning and laying out routing, placement and arrangement of system circuits, controls and equipment. You will be responsible to arrange and install various gauges, sizes, and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices in ways that ensure proper and safe operation of systems. You will interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings and use formulas basic to the trade to figure voltage and resistance. You will perform grounding electrode system installation and repair usually consisting of primary grounding electrodes and secondary electrodes.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain, within 180 days of employment, and maintain the proper state issued, valid Commercial Drivers License including appropriate endorsements and DOD requirements for the type of vehicle being operated
  • Employee is subject to be called back to work during non-duty hours to respond to emergencies and make repairs. Employee will have his/her name on a call out roster and will provide their phone number for the roster.
  • This position has been designated for drug testing. Its incumbent is subject to random urinalysis and breathalyzer testing as a conditions of employment and in accordance with DA guidelines.
  • Assures that environmental, safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes is required.
  • Employee may have to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
  • A pre-employment and annual physical is required.
  • Mission Essential: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 10% is required with this position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision; installing insulators, bending and cutting conduit, calculate voltage, current; utilize building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams to plan and layout routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, and systems. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - Work assignments involve standing, climbing, bending, crouching, and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions. Works at ground level and from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, manlifts, bucket trucks, and aerial lift trucks where parts of systems worked on are in hard to reach places. Frequently lifts and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, employee lifts or moves with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Work Conditions - Employee works on different shift schedules. Work is performed both in and out of doors where there is regular exposure to dirt, dust, grease, noise, and bad weather. There is also exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock and burns. Protective devices such as but not limited to earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn.
