The primary purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of information systems to include acquisition, support, training and installations for the group level organization to provide client information services, including information system devices, application configuration, installation and maintenance of hardware, client software application.

Duties

Administers network/desktop/laptop client support and provides customer service support for information systems. Serves as project officer for recommending selection of and installing new computer systems and software, and maintaining all computer systems. Administers the computer security program. Plans and implements security plans, procedures, and training to comply with Wing, Air Force, and Department of Defense standards. Provides training and assistance to customers. Provides customer training and assistance for present and new computer systems.

  • Position requires incumbent to obtain/retain security clearance designated by security access.
  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment (at least 8570 A+). This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.
  • The incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted.
  • Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Access and SharePoint programming is highly desirable.
  • May be required to work overtime, emergency callback, rotating shifts, etc.
  • May be required to travel TDY when directed using the means of transportation directed by management.

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, Computer Clerk and Assistant Series 0335. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR CURRENT/PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-7, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes extensive knowledge of computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, and magnetic media; knowledge of a wide range of computer techniques, requirements, sources, and procedures; knowledge of a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; and knowledge of some elements of programming, systems analysis, and equipment operations. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR APPLICANTS WITH NO PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes extensive knowledge of computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, and magnetic media; knowledge of a wide range of computer techniques, requirements, sources, and procedures; knowledge of a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; and knowledge of some elements of programming, systems analysis, and equipment operations. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-9 level (Current/Previous Federal Employees). One year at the GS-8 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-9 level (Applicants with No Previous Federal Employment). TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques. 2. Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and higher level programming languages comparable to COBOL and FORTRAN and other job control languages. 3. Knowledge of data content and output options for a variety of administrative, scientific and/or technical program applications that are processed on any of several multi-program operating systems. 4. Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems. 5. Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions, and train users on new computer systems. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
