About the Position: Fort Buchanan is located near San Juan, Puerto Rico, within a short drive from the Luis Mu?oz Marin International Airport, Old San Juan, and most popular tourist attractions and beaches. PR is designated as an OCONUS Non-foreign area. Initial Service Agreement is for a 2-year tour. Salary shown in this announcement includes a Locality Payment of 16.50% for this Non-Foreign Area. An adjusted Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) rate of 2.81% is not reflected in the salary shown.

Duties

Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Provides recommendations on performance standards and formal appraisals for subordinates. Repair air conditioning systems and equipment: repairing/replacing failed components, controls insulation duct systems. Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections with records showing the results, any deficiencies. Determine training needs and provides recommendations on accomplishment of such training. Ensure employees are familiar with JCAHO, NFPA, NEC, OSHA and EPA, Safety Standards. Assign work, provides instruction and any necessary technical guidance directly to subordinate journeyman level workers.

  • You may be expected to travel 5% for this position.

Supervises and performs a variety of work operations primarily involving the repair and maintenance of ventilation and air conditioning distribution systems. Performs the full range of the journeyman level Ventilation and Air Conditioning work that involves troubleshooting the equipment under simulated or actual operating conditions. Repairs HVAC systems and equipment: repairing or replacing failed components on industrial air conditioning units. Reacts to variations in the workplace and maintains a balanced workload between subordinate work groups. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms to parts of systems that are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, bending, and kneeling are required for long periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is usually adequately heated and ventilated; work is frequently dirty and greasy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold-storage rooms; subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock; possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gases.
