About the Position: This position is with HQDA US ARMY INSPECTOR GENERAL AGENCY ASSISTANCE DIVISION located in Arlington, VA.

Duties

Make corrections or recommends to the Branch Chief that the case be returned with specific deficiencies noted for further investigation or documentation. Evaluate Declinations to Investigate, Preliminary Analyses, or Reports of Investigation received from subordinate IG headquarters for review for compliance. Evaluate the sufficiency of evidence collected and terminate the inquiry when sufficient evidence has been obtained to formulate accurate findings. Evaluate referred Inspector General (IG) complaint evaluations and investigations of allegations of reprisal or restriction. Review cases and develop and conduct training for IGs across the enterprise as a member of the staff assistance visit team. Make recommendations to the Branch Chief to terminate the inquiry if there is information that reveals the matter is not within the purview of DAIG. Conduct investigations into alleged violations of the Whistleblower Protection Act to determine whether responsible officials have illegally taken an adverse action against a qualified individual. Arrange all aspects of inquiries and investigations, including travel and notification of/coordination with appropriate officials.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) database to screen for substantiated and ongoing IG investigations.
  • A social security number (SSN) is required to conduct the background investigation; applicants must supply their SSN when asked by the hiring authority.
  • Must be able to obtain an Inspector General (IG) certificate from the Inspector General School upon completion of the three-week IG Training. Incumbent is subject to removal if unable to obtain certification at the end of training.
  • This position requires Drug Testing. See below for additional information.
  • Approximate percentage of time on Travel/TDY 25%; Some employees will be required to travel for several weeks at a time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service which includes conducting investigations into alleged violations of the Whistleblower Protection Act; interpreting requirements of whistleblower reprisal policies in order to enhance various programs; assisting with inquiries and/or investigations; and evaluating and/or investigating referred Inspector General complaint evaluations of allegations of reprisal or restriction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
