About the Position: This is a PERMANENT Range Operations Assistant position with the USAG Fort Jackson, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobility and Security (DPTMS) located at Fort Jackson, SC. ELIGIBLE FOR SITUATIONAL TELEWORK ONLY, INCLUDING EMERGENCY AND OPM PRESCRIBED "UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK".

Duties

Provides a full range of administrative, technical range, and clerical support services for the local Range Operations Office POC in support of the Operations Center. Working independently, resolves non-recurring problems. Disseminate safety information, i.e., severe weather warnings and watches, heat categories, fire danger status, and aircraft over flight. Uses judgment and initiative to make on-site decisions to prevent dangerous situations from occurring which could lead to serious injuries and loss of life. Provides Support Services for various key tasks which require detailed understanding of basic knowledge in a variety of range and operations specific areas. Assist with in-house training sessions, exercises, and briefings for installation personnel covering such topics as emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a full background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 lbs required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes disseminating range safety information, i.e., severe weather warnings and heat categories; assisting with in-house range training sessions and exercises; briefing installation personnel covering such topics as emergency procedures and safety; and assisting in the management and control of range facilities, equipment, supplies and operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Emergency Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision MakingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
