This position serves as Tractor Operator in the Fleet Management under the general supervision of the Supervisory Fleet Management & Grounds Shop, with second level direction provided by the Maintenance Control Manager. This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit. Per the Master Agreement, the AOC will be:1st AOC: Current permanent Facility (including satellites) employees.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Performs duties associated with ground maintenance operation such as irrigation system repairs, to include using backhoes to remove soil to repair lines Performs repairs on different types of fence, replacing/repairing/patching concrete sidewalks, repairing/patching holes in roadways, etc. Performs duties such as removing snow, ice and other debris during inclement weather using attachments on heavy equipment such as skid steer Possesses the ability to grade gravel parking lots with little or no supervision Operates farm-type tractors, skid steer loader construction equipment and towed or attached equipment to maintain grounds and road median Operates the landscaping and construction equipment within confined spaces and close proximity to buildings and vehicles Operates mowers, aerators, impact hammer (jack hammer), augers attachments, broom attachments, posthole diggers, front-end loading devices, movable dozer blades and backhoes Makes multiple mechanical and hydraulic connections between the towed or attached equipment and the tractor and makes numerous equipment adjustments Operates skid steer loader to push, pull and load materials into 5 ton dump truck for transport to work site Regularly operates, controls, cleans, adjust, mixes fuel for and performs first echelon maintenance on gasoline, diesel, riding lawn mowers, heavy walking type mowers, riding field type tractors, street sweepers, utility vehicles, skid steer loader construction equipment, dump truck, Aerial lift (JLG), power industrial truck/fork lift and other heavy equipment assigned to the grounds section too excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications Knowledge of building concrete forms, mixing, placing and finishing concrete for repairing sidewalks Has a good working knowledge of installing and wiring irrigation systems Possesses good depth perception and hand and eye coordination to prevent damage to utility lines Knowledge of soil characteristics to properly determine the proper action that is needed to stabilize the surface and sub grade May be called any time of day or night to perform duties related to inclement weather, emergency, or disaster situations Assists other shops and services as needed Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 7:00a.m. - 3:30p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Tractor Operator/PD01403A Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. This position (Tractor Operator) will perform various duties related to ground maintenance, equipment operator, masonry work, and operator/laborer work. In making your response, consider that your past and/or current training/experience must have provided the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform full range of duties of Tractor Operator at WG-07 level, which are (a) knowledge of operating characteristics of the tractor/skid steer loader construction equipment and towed or attached equipment; a variety of soil composition, conformation, and characteristics; building concrete forms, mixing, placing and finishing concrete for repairing sidewalks; properly build and compact a sub grade for concrete sidewalks; installing and wiring irrigation systems; (b) ability to operate the tractor, skid steer loader construction equipment and attached or towed equipment; grade gravel parking lots with little or no supervision; and make multiple connections between the tractor and attached equipment to the tractor/construction equipment; and (c) skill in operating tractors and other landscaping equipment with precision around rough terrain and snowy areas; operating backhoes, skid steer loaders, Aerial lifts, fork lifts; performing other tasks associated with grounds and road maintenance; and adjusting the equipment for various job requirements. (This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable.) You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent will often be required to make repairs that will require great physical efforts to lift, pull, push, and carry objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes. He/she will be required to climb, crawl, bend and may be subjected to standing, crouching and stooping for extended periods of time, as well as lifting 50 pounds or more. Working Conditions: Incumbent will work inside and outdoors in conditions that will often be dirty, dusty and greasy. He/she will be required to work in areas with poor lighting and ventilation and will often be exposed to very hot and cold temperatures and will experience soiling of his/her clothing and skin surfaces. Incumbent will work in areas where unpleasant fumes and odors are present. He/she will be exposed to hazardous materials, chemicals and infectious diseases and will be required to use all personal protective equipment available to him and follow all policies and procedures dealing with confined spaces, hazardous materials and infection control.
