This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Trademark Examination Policy (DC-TMEP). The incumbent will serve as a paralegal specialist and will be responsible for performing a variety of time-critical, substantive legal work related to the Trademark Register Protection program initiatives.

To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-11. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience utilizing intellectual property regulations, rules, and statutes relevant to examining and approving or denying various types of actions submitted under a variety of provisions, and characterized by frequent complicating problems. Experience referring to legal reference sources, agency directives and issuances, and appeal decisions and precedents in order to locate and evaluate applicable decisions, precedents, and policies. Experience conducting case examination and gather relevant facts in order to approve or deny actions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
