You will serve as a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist in the Office of Special Trial Counsel within NLSC. A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 9.28% will be added to the stated salary, which is subject to change without notice.

Duties

You will ensure office compliance with evidence collection, storage, and logs, in accordance with applicable policy, procedures, laws and regulations. You will assist attorneys in their conducting of training to assigned military and civilian support staff on topics such as local law, court procedures, legal research, documentation preparation, case management and office procedures. You will develop and maintain training materials, presentations, and guides (e.g. resource list of other military and civilian assistance providers) for legal programs. You will plan work, sets priorities and schedules work as necessary to assure effective and expeditious accomplishment of priority work without adverse effect on regular and recurring work. You will prepare assigned cases in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, precedents, policies, office practices and established procedures. You will prepare litigation and court-martial support documents (e.g. pleadings, motions, Article 62 appeals, direct and cross examination questions) requiring complex independent legal research, analysis, and factual understanding of specific cases.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying advanced knowledge of legal principles and concepts to interpret a body of law, regulations, precedents, and practices in support of trial proceedings for an organization. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Assisting attorneys in their conducting of training to assigned military and civilian support staff on topics such as local law, court procedures, legal research, documentation preparation, case management and office procedures; 2) Delivering formal or informal presentations/training regarding legal or administrative procedures to appropriate audiences; 3) Preparing assigned cases in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, precedents, policies, office practices and established procedures; 4) Providing verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate and explain findings and recommendations to assigned attorneys; to prepare reports, interrogatories, affidavits and communicating other matters in a logical manner.
