About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Installs and reads meters, fuse panels, outlets, junction boxes, switches, lighting fixtures, receptacles, etc. Maintains and constructs primary and secondary distribution systems (up to 13,200 volts). Installs complete electrical service in buildings which involves setting of conduit wiring or cable, setting of building service, switch, and distribution panels. Inspects and repairs distribution lines from the substations to their appropriate area. Repairs and installs pole line transformers, sets poles, installs guys, installs, and repairs underground lines; maintains and repairs high voltage switching equipment. Services street lighting system by switching duties at substations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an High Voltage Electrician without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common High Voltage Electrician duties including servicing street lights systems; Installing electrical service in buildings; Running new lines to repair existing electrical systems; Replacing defective wiring, receptacles and switches; and conforming to electrical codes and manufacturers' specifications when splicing and terminating cables. I can operate lineman trucks, assist with installing electrical service in buildings, and assist with inspecting and repairing high voltage transformers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state issued commercial driver's license (Class A or B with airbrake endorsement). Working Conditions: This position requires the incumbent to work outside most of the time, be subject to extreme of weather conditions and in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. Work of this position requires extensive pole climbing with some work in underground facilities.
