This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Hawaii is a beautiful state, but has a high cost of living. Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.

Duties

You will perform all phases of masonry craft to maintain, install, repair, altar, or construct interior and exterior surfaces and structures built of a variety of types of brick, block, and stone. Construct and repair walls, sidewalks, manholes, ramps, floorings, and catch basins. Cut and shape brick, block, and stone in constructing and repairing window and door openings and corners. Perform a variety of complex hollow tile wall and stair installation to ensure courses (layers) are laid evenly, to include transition, and the completed work blends with existing structure. Construct windowsills, mantles, and arches capable of supporting the walls above the openings.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is designated as Drug Testing Required. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing in accordance with DA guidelines.
  • Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes is required.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain within six (6) months of appointment and maintain a valid state issued Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A to operate vehicles off post on public highways and other roads.
  • Mission Essential: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift end.
  • A pre-employment and annual physical are required.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 10% is required with this position.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mason ~ without more than normal supervision. I possess good skill, knowledge and experience in performing most phases and techniques of the masonry trade. I have good skill and experience in constructing, demolishing and repairing interior and exterior surfaces and structures such as curbs, sidewalks, walkways, stairs, walls, floors, retaining walls, built of a variety of types of materials including but not limited to brick, block, stone, tile, cement, etc. I can lay and align bricks, blocks, or tiles to build or repair structures; use trowel, floats, edger's, to level, spread, and shape mortar or concrete; I can distinguish between the various types of mortars. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Is frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 90 pounds and carrying bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand. Continually required to stand while working and frequently climbs ladders and scaffolds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Is exposed to a variety of weather conditions while working outdoors. Subject to danger of falling when working from ladders and scaffolds and is exposed to dust and dirt while mixing mortar and while handling various masonry materials.
