Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the National Security Unit, Child Exploitation Section for the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri. Typical work assignments will include: Mentors team members in the identification, examination, analysis and reporting of digital forensic data relating to criminal investigations, particularly in matters related to the sexual abuse and exploitation of children. Gather and collect evidence from law enforcement agencies that conducted child sexual abuse and exploitation investigations. Conduct digital forensic review s and analysis of examination and provide advice and recommendations to attorneys. Evaluate network security, social media and computer forensic systems and software. Provide guidance and recommendations for charging decisions and prosecution of child sexual abuse and exploitation cases to attorneys Conduct research relating to digital forensics and crimes involving the use of electronic storage devices and social media platforms. Conduct or participate in interviews of victims and witnesses in child sexual abuse and exploitation investigations. Compile, organize and conduct discovery review of evidence in prosecution cases. Testify at grand jury proceedings, motion practice and at trial. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.

Qualifications

Qualifications: GS-12: To qualify for a GS-12 Digital Investigative Analyst, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in planning, collecting, examining, and processing of digital evidence for criminal investigations that will be admissible in a court of law; utilizes analysis techniques, methods and equipment to support child exploitation investigations through the analysis of electronic devices; developing and maintaining contacts in the forensic field, collaborating, planning, coordinating and keeping abreast of technological advances relating to forensic analysis of digital, electronic, and mobile device data which may contain evidence related to a criminal investigation. This also includes ability to gather evidence from law enforcement. GS-13: To qualify for a GS-13 Digital Investigative Analyst, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as planning, collecting, examining, and processing of digital evidence for criminal investigations that will be admissible in a court of law; utilizes digital forensic review and analysis techniques, methods and equipment to support the investigation though the analysis of electronic devices and data used in child exploitation cases; providing advice and training to attorneys throughout investigation and prosecution relating to digital evidence and analysis; developing and maintaining contacts in the forensic field, collaborating, planning, coordinating and keeping abreast of technological advances relating to forensic analysis of digital, electronic, and mobile device data which may contain evidence related to a criminal investigation. This also includes ability to gather evidence from law enforcement partners in a forensically secure manner and the ability to interview witnesses and victims in child exploitation investigations. Selective Placement Factor(s): A selective placement factor is determined to be essential for successful performance in this position. Those candidates who do not meet the following selective placement factor will be rated "not qualified" for the position. Experience reviewing and analyzing digital forensic evidence and electronic devices for the development of investigations and prosecutions of cases related to child sexual abuse and exploitation; experience also specifically includes providing testimony and demonstrative exhibits during criminal grand jury presentations, motion practice and trials during the course of developing investigations and the prosecution of cases. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
