About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Family Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Monitor patient for emotional reactions during screening of pre-deployment and post-deployment and alert the OIC and/or provider about any concerns regarding the patients psychological condition. Conduct initial interviews with patients to gather vitals, medical history, and information on complaints, injuries, and family history. Label specimens and completes laboratory request. Prepares all shipping manifests ensuring the integrity of shipping documents, shipping logs, and specimens. Coordinate and administer microcomputer driven audiometric examinations performed to determine hearing loss via the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health System Maintain supplies and equipment to ensure adequate supplies in patient care areas. Screen medical records for Soldiers, Civilians and Contractors updating individual medical readiness in computerized and paper-based medical records. Use database to verify, enter, and retrieve immunization and other health data on all soldiers as they in process. Assist soldiers in completion of appropriate documentation for processing and assists with physical exam screening. Perform quality control inspections of information entered in various management information systems. Collect and organize workload data for various reports generated by clinic leadership as requested on a routine basis.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Utilizing electronic systems to update medical records; 2) Obtaining patient vital signs and specimens; and 3) Performing non-professional direct patient care in a hospital or health clinic setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Assistant. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
