Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will be placed in a non-pay status from approximately 11/1 to 12/1 unless other work exists. In accordance with NPS policy, the employee will be placed in non-pay status for a minimum of 1 pay period, though non-pay time may be changed due to operational needs and/or funds.

Duties

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is seeking a Maintenance Worker position. This is a Career-Seasonal appointment, which is a permanent position and includes the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. The incumbent will be placed in a pay status and can expect to work a minimum of 23 pay periods not to exceed a maximum of 25 pay periods. In accordance with NPS policy, the employee will be placed in non-pay status for a minimum of 1 pay period, though non-pay time may be changed due to operational needs and/or funds. This is a permanent part-time position. Park housing is not available, but housing is available in several communities close to the park. Moving costs will not be provided. This position provides maintenance assistance in a variety of areas including recurring buildings, trails, grounds, and/or utility maintenance. Duties to include carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, electrical, custodial/labor, and motor vehicle operation. Computer use for email will be required.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.Knowledge of materialsTechnical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments SCREEN OUT: Have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex maintenance and repair work using a variety of trades such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, janitorial, painting, roofing, landscaping and other trades appropriate to this position. Skilled in performing building maintenance such as repairing interior and exterior of structures, replacing windows, patching roofs, cleaning and servicing restrooms and other facilities, unclogging drains, repairing faucets, staining and painting. Skilled in maintaining and repairing grounds, roads and trails by mowing, weed eating, pruning, picking up debris and litter. I can operate a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment. Repair and operate a variety of tools and equipment associated with the trades above. Considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.
