About the Position: The Operations and Maintenance Division provides for the day to day services required to keep Fort Detrick's buildings and grounds in functioning condition. It is O & M policy to operate in the most efficient, timely, effective, and economical manner in support of Fort Detrick's multi-tasked missions.

Duties

Serve as a worker on project teams involved in the installation on complex systems new to the installation and on teams making major modifications to existing systems Responsible for work associated with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of electronic controls and indicating and recording systems used on highly specialized equipment/systems Perform duties concerned with the installation, maintenance and repair of integrated commercial intrusion detection systems (ICIDS), closed circuit television systems (CCTV) and fire alarm systems Calibrates, adjusts, and repairs HVAC direct digital, microprocessor, electro pneumatic, electronic and automated logic systems Perform electrical installation, repair, modify, and troubleshoot, load and test new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems fixtures and controls

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires a Background Security Investigation
  • Position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination
  • Position requires 45lbs heavy lifting
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch and work in awkward and cramped positions when welding in hard-to-reach or confined spaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and over 45 pounds with assistance. May be required to exert very heavy physical effort, lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms); operating power equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, in hard to reach places and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, smoky, exposed to temperature extremes, drafts, dust and dirt. Worker may be exposed to fumes, heat flying sparks and electronic shock and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves and flash shield or eye goggles and other equipment as required. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment.
