About the Position: This position is located in the Legal Office, Administrative and Civil Law Branch, Fort Dix, NJ. Located in central New Jersey, Burlington County, Fort Dix, is 72 miles southwest of New York City, 34 miles northeast of Philadelphia. Fort Dix is close to the Jersey shore and within a short driving distance to a variety of leisure activities, cultural centers, museums, historical locations, fishing, hunting, boating, skiing, snowboarding, and hiking locations.

Duties

Initiates affirmative claims (property damage and medical care recovery) on behalf of the United States. Receives and analyzes documents and other information and then processes notifications regarding potential third party liability claims under the Federal Medical Care Recovery Act and other legal authorities. Ensures electronic database and hardcopy files contain all relevant and necessary documentation to include medical records, claimant and witness statements, government forms, police/accident reports, etc. Compiles all necessary documentation, interviews witnesses and claimants, and makes recommendations to Claims Attorney. Serves as Notary Public. Serves as office monitor overseeing custodial work performed by federal inmate labor details at Legal Office and Courthouse.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain Notary Public certification.
  • One year probationary period may be required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a State driver's license.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
