This position is located in the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) as a supervisory statistician for the Justice Statistics Unit. You will have responsibilities for maintaining, enhancing, and expanding major statistical series and programs to ensure that the knowledge created has utility to stakeholders and that BJS's data collection activities are implemented in ways that maintain the trust and confidence of its data providers.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-15A. Applicants must show successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included 15 semester/22 quarter hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester/9 quarter hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester (13 quarter) hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements is given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content includes statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements of business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data, such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.ORB. Combination of education and experience----courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADE 15:In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
