About the Position: Serve as Supervisor of the Roads and Grounds Section, Facilities Maintenance Branch, Operations Division.

Duties

Plan the allocation of such resources and the distribution of work. Review and analyze work accomplishment, cost, and personnel utilization records to evaluate the progress of work, to reduce or control costs, and to anticipate and accommodate potential problems. Direct the preparation or prepares operating instructions to be followed by subordinates for accomplishment of critical or emergency work operations. Promote a variety of management programs for the section such as safety, cost reduction, incentive awards, beneficial suggestions, and quality assurance programs within the policies and procedures established by higher authority. Perform inspections of assigned facilities, equipment, vehicles, and structures to identify safety, security, environmental, and fire prevention violations; implements corrective action, and establish milestones for correction of violations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 180 days of employment.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires Certification as Manager/Operator of Landfill Operations (MOLO) by the State of New Mexico within the first year of employment. Training costs will be covered.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Ability to perform Mobile Industrial Equipment Operations tasks which include safely operating heavy engineering equipment such as graders, dozers, dump trucks, tractor-trailer combinations, compaction road rollers, excavators, a variety of smaller motor vehicles and experience maneuvering heavy engineering equipment in all types of weather conditions. Knowledgeable in trade practices in one or more of the following areas: road maintenance, minor road construction, grounds maintenance and landscaping, pest and vegetation control, wild land firefighting, or crane operations - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside with exposure to dirt dust, oils and fuels, noise, fire, occasional air operations, and extremes in weather such as heat over 100 degrees, cold temperatures below 0 degrees, blowing dust, fire and smoke, rain, etc. There is a possibility of scrapes, burns, bruises, cuts, and strains. Requires the use of protective clothing and equipment as authorized by OSHA and the installation Safety Office. Requires a valid state driver's license to perform incidental driving to and from work sites.
