This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Clarksville, Tennessee about 45 miles northwest of Nashville. Relocation or Recruitment Incentive may be authorized.

Duties

Control or eradicates pests common to the installation and surrounding area. Mix general and restricted use chemicals and mediums according to strict guidelines. Check for visual evidence of pests, such as ants, bagworms, certain birds, caterpillars, fleas, flies, lice, mice, moles mosquitoes, rats, roaches, silverfish, spiders, ticks and wasps. Uses Integrated Pest Management (IPH) methods to reduce and control hazards to public health.

  • Pre-employment physical is required.
  • May be required to wear protective clothing, respirators, goggles, or facemasks.
  • A state Driver's License is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pest Controller ~ without more than normal supervision. Including mixing the proper strength and amount of chemicals based on the size of the area to be treated, with guidance and instruction from journey-level employee or a supervisor. I have the ability apply and dispose of restricted use pesticides; determine appropriate tools to use such as hand, power and gas operated sprayers, dusters and tractor sprayers, depending on the type of extermination that is required, and have the ability to perform operator maintenance on application equipment as required under close supervision Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires frequent lifting of material weighing 50 pounds or more and carrying chemical solutions and equipment weighing up to 40 Pounds for extended periods. Often works in cramped or inconvenient locations, requiring working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently bends, crawls, climbs, and moves equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside. Inside work is frequently performed under buildings that are often dirty, dusty, and damp. Outside work frequently requires exposure to hot sun and occasionally to bad weather. Discomfort is experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators, goggles, or facemasks. Is often exposed to toxic vapors, liquids, and powders, some of which have a residual toxic effect; there is also exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and insect bites and stings. Work involves exposure to noise levels above 85db, which requires the use of hearing protective equipment for noise reduction. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this job.
