Duties

Take and record blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height and weight. Assist patients in walking, moving, and changing positions and prevents obstruction, dislodgment and unnecessary movement of drainage, suction, and parenteral fluid apparatus. Receive telephone calls, patients, and visitors to the medical facility, ascertains the nature of the call or visit, obtains identifying information and determines the nature and urgency of the patient's request. Schedule appointments for patients that obtain referrals from providers to other clinics or specialty areas as required. Observe patients and families for conditions and behaviors as specified in the protocol which warrants immediate medical attention or documentation and provides these patients with the proper disposition to affect such care.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must obtain within 30 days of hire and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Incumbent must be willing to periodically travel outside the installation (up to 5 percent of total duty time).
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
  • This position may require shift work to include night, evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
  • Position requires the ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience scheduling medical appointments for patients, triaging patients, and taking vital signs for assigned patients in a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) or clinic. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Health Technician. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
