About the Position: Serves as an Electronics Mechanic in the Maintenance Division, Logistics Readiness Center, Fort Belvoir, VA. Fort Belvoir is approximately 15 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., five miles from Alexandria, VA and next door to the community of Mount Vernon, VA. Duties

Serves as an Electronics Mechanic, responsible for fabricating, overhauling, modifying, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic equipment, such as Federal emergency systems and computerized alarm systems. Performs repairs and PM services on computerized alarm systems, tactical and commercial radios, night vision devices, portable message boards, portable camera trailers, mobile radar trailers, mobile and emergency Federal systems. Utilizes blueprints, schematics, and technical publications to diagnose, disassemble, repair, adjust, re-assemble, and check electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical assemblies, sub-systems and associated components.

Requirements

  • The position requires a valid government driver's license.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • The position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • The position requires to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ELECTRONICS MECHANIC~ without more than normal supervision. Operate, diagnose, disassemble, repair, adjust and check electronic, electromechanical and mechanical assembles, sub-systems and associated components on electronic equipment, such as computerized alarm systems, commercial and tactical two-way communication radios (portable, mobile and fixed), industrial controls, night vision devices, and portable message boards. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools - ElectronicsIngenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Physical Effort: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. Employees frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally they handle items greater than 40 pounds, with assistance from coworkers. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. Occasional climbing, working on concrete, and working in high places is required. The majority of work is performed in a sedentary position. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside a well-lighted, heated, ventilated area. Work is sometimes performed in high or restricted places, under conditions of heat or cold and occasional inclement weather. Employees are subject to injuries such as electrical shock, cuts, bruises, and minor burns.
