The primary purpose of this position, NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER TRAINING LEADER, WL-3705.11, is to provide a training leader over three or more civilian Federal Wage System (FWS) workers for the Nondestructive Inspection portion of the Surfaces team in the Aircraft Repair Flight to advance helpers to an intermediate targeted level. Duty Title: Surfaces Leader (NDI)

Duties

Train all Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) Testers in penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, ultrasonic and radiography testing method areas. Lead and train employees. Determine and perform inspection methods and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection: Determine the test method best suited for the part. Use and oversee the use of basic hand and power tools such as hammers, screwdrivers and wrenches. Maintain equipment records and documents actions.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 Metal Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Lead or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability To Use and Maintain tools and Equipment 5. Knowledge of Metals 6. Dexterity and Safety PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May experience periods of prolonged standing. Moderate to heavy lifting of no more than 50 pounds. Will experience stooping, bending, reaching and stretching. Climbing in, on or through aircraft with equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works inside shop and can spend up to 25% of the time outside of shop performing Surfaces requirements. Can be tasked to go TDY anytime during the reporting period, this includes seminars, school and/or training purposes. Incumbent is exposed to oils which may cause skin irritation, dermatitis or allergy. Subject to possible radiation damage of body tissues. Wears radiation monitoring devices. Subject to eye injury, electrical shock, broken bones, burns and cuts from shop equipment, metal and various chemicals and Falls from maintenance stands. May have exposure to chemical fumes and heat. May be exposed to high noise levels. NDI proficiency is maintained through the nondestructive testing Level II and/or Level III certification program. Skill and proficiency must be demonstrated by satisfactorily complying with the certification requirements of military standards, military specifications, Air Force regulations and NAS 410. Nondestructive Testers shall not be permitted to perform any NDI test method in connection with any aircraft, or aircraft parts or accessories in any NDI discipline for which they have not been certified. Initial certification will begin as soon as possible from the incumbent start date. Recertification will be required every five years or as required per regulation. Individuals
