About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Review and check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Operate a variety of engineer equipment such as pay loaders, tractors with attachments, graders, and rollers. Perform excavation, backfilling, grading, leveling, tamping, and piling to maintain roads, grounds, drainage items, signage, fencing and other tasks throughout the post areas, housing areas, and occasionally off post. Utilize various plans, schedules, guides and knowledge of service, procedures and materials in the inspection of on-going performance and completed work to ensure all work is performed in accordance with customers? requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position and as such, the incumbent is subject to preemployment and random drug testing.
  • Must obtain and maintain a government driver's license.
  • Pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter.
  • One year probationary period.

I have the ability to perform common Operations Leader tasks including leading the operation of various equipment used to perform grading, leveling, tamping, piling to maintain roads and grounds. I have the ability to lead operation of engineering equipment such as tractors with attachments and graders to maintain roads and grounds. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. WORKING CONDITIONS - Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents.Works outside while loading and unloading and during driver maintenance checks. Is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or loading/unloading.
