This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as Maintenance Mechanic at a lake project responsible for dam operations/flood control, and upkeep and maintenance of public use recreational facilities and natural resources.

Duties

Make electrical repairs by removing, replacing and splicing (including waterproof splicing), soldering and installing defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures. Select and order materials needed for installation, service and repair work. Perform full range of plumbing tasks for new installations and maintenance. Use common woodworking tools, e.g., tape measures, rulers, squares, planes, screwdrivers, power saws, and power planes. Maintain, repair or constructs a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone and other related materials. Perform repairs which can be accomplished by cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This requires a pre-employment drug test and enrollment into a random drug testing after appointment. The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position has a requirement to lift from 10 lbs. to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain the Corps of Engineers certification for operation of the motorboat within 12 months of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement within 24 months of appointment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. WG-07 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have performed the majority of the following maintenance worker tasks under normal supervision such as automotive repairs consisting of cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems. I have full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. I have experience operating conventional field type tractors and attached or towed equipment used to mow fields, transport equipment and materials; plant/harvest crops, move earth, dig ditches. I have experience driving vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, platform trucks, flatbeds, dump trucks, water trucks, tractor trailer, etc. to transport personnel, materials, and equipment. I am able to operate equipment such as power mowers, power trimmers, power edgers, powered weed-eaters and related hand tools to perform grounds maintenance work. This experience has been documented in my resume. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WG-08 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have performed the majority of the following maintenance worker tasks under normal supervision such basic carpentry, plumbing repairs, and automotive repairs. I have full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. I have experience operating conventional field type tractors and attached or towed equipment used to mow fields, transport equipment and materials; plant/harvest crops, move earth, dig ditches. I have experience driving vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, platform trucks, flatbeds, dump trucks, water trucks, tractor trailer, etc. to transport personnel, materials, and equipment. WG-09 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have performed the majority of the following maintenance worker tasks under normal supervision electrical work, carpentry, plumbing repairs, and automotive repairs. I have full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the journeyman level skills. I have experience operating engineering and construction equipment such as bulldozer, grader, backhoe, front-end loader, or trench digger related to road maintenance, land clearing, and snow removal. I have experience operating conventional field type tractors and attached or towed equipment used to mow fields, transport equipment and materials; plant/harvest crops, move earth, dig ditches. I have experience driving vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, platform trucks, flatbeds, dump trucks, water trucks, tractor trailer, etc. to transport personnel, materials, and equipment. I am able to operate equipment such as power mowers, power trimmers, power edgers, powered weed-eaters and related hand tools to perform grounds maintenance work. This experience has been documented in my resume. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Uses moderate physical effort in the process of stacking, loading, unloading, moving, and carrying tools and equipment, and materials ranging in weight from 10 lb. to 50 lb. Occasionally is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all environmental conditions and the jobs usually are dirty, dusty, greasy, and noisy. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of broken bones, burns, cuts, bruises, shocks and strains. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
